corrugated metal simulation

What is the best paint to simulate weathered corrugated metal sheeting on a styrene model. I prefer non-toxic paints but will accept all suggestions.

I use Testor’s German Metallic Silver as it looks grainy like weathered galvanized steel. Careful when spraying as it is a thick paint.

What typoe of paint is that-acrylic, latex, lacquer? Can that paint be brushed effectively? I prefer to avoid sprays since I am concerned about health mattters. I use a respirator but do not have a booth to extract overspray.

I use a spray can and it a lacquer base. As long as you spray in a well ventalated area you won’t have a problem. Brushing the material will take away from the grain that is formed.

Thanks for the info. Once I locate the paint which I believe is Testors Model Master Car Colour German Silver Metallic #2914 aerosol, I will give spraying a try in my greenhouse which definitely will be warm enough and can be ventilated easily after the spraying.

I’ve gotten great results painting the siding with Polly Scale CP Gray, then, after it’s dry, very lightly drybrushing on Polly Scale Rust. In several areas I’ll rip or cut the siding and paint that area with Polly Scale Roof Brown to simulate badly rusted areas.
