Cosmetic restoration completed on Wabash E8 No. 1009

I wish CSX would offer to do this sort of restoration for the L&N E-6 owned by the Kentucky Railway Museum. Anyone with CSX out there reading?

Ditto on having 1009 run again.

Follow the Flag!

It is great that the skirting was restored to this E8 unit. Most cab and booster units have lost their skirting during servicing.

Now, if only E8 No. 1009 can be restored to operate again.

NS Scores again! It is so refreshing in this time of Corporate Name Changing to a meaningless soup of alphabet letters, for a Major Corporate entity to relish in its history! Congratulations to Norfolk Southern and VMT, as well as the NC Transportation Museum !

Going to be cool to see the 1009 with the Monticello Wabash diesel. I agree with u David, csx should help restore LN E6 #770. It’s only one of two E6 diesels surviving, the only true L&N E-unit to be preserved, and is on NRHS top at-risk list. Along with that, they need to restore CP CPA16-4 #4104 up in Canada. It would be nice to see those two in S

What a beautiful locomotive; what a beautiful paint scheme. Thank you to all who were involved with this project. And NS, you continue to amaze me, and continue to set the bar higher and higher. Very nice!!!

Beautiful.

Wish modern passenger locomotive makers would draw some inspiration from the era of E units, PAs, and so on.

Why are none of these events held when school’s out ?

Beautiful job on restoration!!

Somebody needs to get the Wabash heritage unit routed that way for the Streamliner event. Who could resist a pair of Wabash cab units flanking a brand new EMD wearing the same scheme?

Looks real nice!

This is Great! Get It operational & pair it with the Wabash F7 for some trips.

While all this “Heritage” stuff is very nice to see, I would much prefer to see NS spend their money on fixing the Scioto River bridge and get the Peavine up and running again. They would save fuel and time over the current routing of trains to Cincinnati and Westward instead of running them through Columbus

I agree with you paul harrison. It seems these units would be air dynamically friendly. This body style needs to be copied as close as possible…for both heritage & fuel savings. EMD had it right in the first place.

My favorite F ‘cosmetic’ work was once found in the 3 FL9-AC’s formerly used by LIRR; they were amazing to look at and sounded great too! They were fast, but they were also unreliable due to issues with the electronics PLUS inadequate ventilation for the inverters, which frequently burned out.

As I understand it, LIRR scrapped all 3 for no discernible reason.
