I’m in the process of building a Lionel Fastrack layout and am having great difficulty finding inexpensive track. The cost of the common individual Fastrack sections ranges all the way from $3.15/e to over $5.00/e for the same item. In my opinion a person should be able to buy basic straights and curves in the $2.50 to $2.75 range. Is this wishful thinking or am I stuck paying big money for the track?
It’s not cheap… I just bought some at the RIT show in Rochester for $2.50 each - from a set break-up.
Otherwise, the best you’re going to do is at Ridge Road Station.

Go to ebay … !
I hope you’re joking.
Fastrack on eBay goes for over list, especially this time of year.

Unless you are planning a very large investment, your local train shop, selling under list, will be your best bet. The locals here in SE lower Michigan will save you more than the shipping cost.

That was an outstanding tip you gave about Ridge Road Station. The prices are definitely less than all other places I have checked. Shipping is also based on weight and distance not a flat excessive price like most sites charge. Thanks again.
You’re welcome. Ridge Road Station is almost a LHS for us - about an hour away. It’s midway between Rochester & Niagara Falls, out in the middle of nowhere. Really. In a field. There is no commercial district nearby and the closest business is a little diner kitty-corner down the road a spell. BUT it is a great destination… if you look through the website you can get an idea of how HUGE the place is.

Unfortunately, Fastrack is on the expensive side, but I have found it was worth it. My layout is 12 x18 on three levels. For my pike, I spent over $2700.00 on Fastrack and that was with a big discount (slightly less than Ridge Road). The advantage of a very smooth running set with what I believe to be the best switches out there, it was worth it.

I agree Fastrack is on the expensive side. However, think of the money that you’re saving by not having to purchase Band-Aids.[:)]
I’ve gotten deals on ebay buying it bulk. If you search Lionel Fastrack on ebay, buy it now, there are several dealers offering discounts on Fastrack amongst a ton of offerings. You want to order in quantity or shipping will kill you.
I agree with going to the commercial discount dealers first if they have the pieces you need.
Otherwise, yes, Fastrack is expensive. One spur with switch, uncoupling track, and track sections knocks you back 100 bucks. Atlas O is comming out with their own version and it is not much cheaper.
