Cost per mile to build freeway vs light rail?

Um with Light Rail costs running at 300 to 400 million dollers to build your average 15 mile starter system how much money are we saving verses adding another freeway lane?

Heck we could just add another track to a parrel main line railroad at a million dollers a mile

and run budd cars for a fraction of the price of light rail

When Cal-Trans considered widening a overloaded freeway here recently, by the time they cleared all the regulations, environmental reviews, property aquisitions, eminant domain proceedures, lawsuit from eminant domain proceedures, and the actual construction they figured it would end up costing over 100 million a mile.

Yep, that never happens with a light rail project, right?[;)]

But still, just a fraction of the cost!

Nah, there only 10 million a mile[:-^]
