So Thought id Give This Thred a Chance Of Us S/P And COTTON BELT Lovers out there ?

Yes, Cotton Belt, the strong right arm of the Southern Pacific. The old Espee would not have been as much with out it .

Yep , the gangs all here !!

The old SSW (Cotton Belt) was included in almost every train that passed through my area when I was a kid. I have a Southern Pacific GP-40-2, a SSW GP-40 and a Southern Pacific SD-9 that I like to mix or run together when my layout is set up for the mid 70s to mid 80s.

I’m always fascinated when I see euorpean modelers doing U.S. railroads. What made you do that ? Of course Pele Soeborg is famous for his modeling of the desert southwest. What prompted you to model the U.S. ? I bought Pele’s book the other day, great stuff.

Wow I didnt know he had a book out? Do you have a link i can go to get it?

thanks Carl.

There is a thread here somewhere about Desert Scenery , someone posted the link there to Amazon for Pele’s book, I wanted it so bad I paid for next day delivery , the charge for next day was more than the book cost ! I’ll look for the link and edit it in. Here it is:

Mountain to Desert: Building the Ho Scale Daneville & Donner River

Thanks so much! i think ill grab that one .Man he does good work!

Carl.

Here is a update on the Dash-9 Im in progress with

Finally got all the hand rails on and painted.

Hi!

besides liking US trains, I think US model trains are cheap, reliable, smooth running, largely available, etc… after many years of MR magazine, I simply couldn’t resist any longer

also, I wanted to model a specific prototype, in a specific area, in a specific timeframe. and I wanted to have lots of freight realistic operation. there is a LOT of documentation on US railroads out there in the form of books, maps, timetables, websites, forum, modelers, models… those things are hard to find if you model a specific european prototype.

over here the majority of modelers likes to run trains in circle, without any purpose and just by pressing a button while they seat back and relax watching trains. well, nothing wrong with that, but I find it’s fun to do switching and/or mainline operation and/or dispatching…

last but not least i definately love both the SP and california landscapes

I love my bloody nose units! I think they are the best looking freight units out there.

For us SP’ers here’s an Atlas Trainman RS-32 that I did some detailing on. More to come someday on this one, but did the grabs, added the correct lights.

SP has been one of my favorite railroads.
