Cotton Belt Unit in 2010

This past Sunday I headed up to Van Nuys to try and catch the detouring freight, and to my pleasant surprise found this St. Louis Southwestern GP40M-2, with its Cotton Belt number intact, running the Day Bud switching Gemco Yard.

First image is of the train being watched by a fellow ferroequinologist who brought his own chair to the festivities. (If this person is some one on the list, I didn’t even realize that I’d photographed you until I was editing my shots… but then really liked the way it turned out).

Second image is a close-up roster shot of the SSW GP40M-2. Long may she live in this paint.

Third image is of her making her final shove, sorting a lone autorack, prior to getting put away for the day.

Thanks for looking and corrections are welcome.

Awesome catch E.L.! This indeed may be the last time any of us will see the unit in the original CB scheme!

Justin

It is nice to see an unpatched SSW, SP, or DRGW locomotive. I think it has been over two years since I have seen one.

Charles

Thanks for showing us a very nice picture of a locomotive from many years ago, and still operating.
