Couple of snaps from my layout

Heyas,

The layout’s coming along, slowly but surely. [:)]

Thought I might share a couple of recently shot scenes.

Hope these are up to forum standards. [:I]

a bit dark and out of focus , but the layout looks interesting

Wonderful atmosphere created both on the layout and in the rather antiquy photos!

I hope I can make my layout look that good! Great work!

Looks really good. I too like the atmosphere created in the photos, intentional or not.
I need to practice with my camera. As we all know, taking pics, lighting etc. are yet one more aspect of this great modeling RR stuff.

Hey Guys, thanks for the kind sentiments. [:I]

The effect in the pics was somewhat intentional I suppose. I took them with a small web cam and the only lighting is a ceiling mounted flourescent and a single bulb at one end of the table. I used the web cam software to bring them into acceptable shape and the effect is only intentional to that point.

Shots one and four are opposite views down the same track. The second is on the opposite side of the building in the first shots mentioned. It’s my first stand alone scratchbuilding effort, save for the loading dock in the third pic and a couple of porches I have in use.

I’m still working on scenery around the other structures I have placed and the hope is that by April I’ll be starting on the second tier of this area of the layout. That will permit proper lighting and all the other goodies that come with the approach to semi-completion. [8D]

Here are a few progress pictures, taken with a buy it and develop it camera.

Scenery has covered some of the blank spots and the track has been changed a bit in the center area. Gotta love a hobby that let’s you do so many different things with a single goal in mind. [8D] Of course ya get to run the trains along the way too!!

great layout !!! Love the pics thanks for giving us a peek[:D]

great pics
lots of work done there [:)]

Nice pictures. On your first set, third one down, the stone building looks great. What type of model is it? Plaster casting, plastic…etc…? The mortar lines and stone coloring are impressive. Could you give any insight on its construction?

Hi dand,

Thanks for the compliment.
It’s a plastic structure, Freeman Company, but I can’t recall the mfg’s name at the moment.
The coloring was done by first painting the walls a sandstone color and then applying a variety of brown mixes with the drybru***echnique. Load the brush sparingly and then remove most of the paint onto a paper towel before hitting the high spots on the structure with quick verticle sweeps. The color goes where it wants and never has the chance to get between the stones. As I recall I then hit the entire structure with a thin ink and alcohol wash.
