Couple questions about Union Pacific United Way and desert victory locomotives

I’m currently in the process of upgrading a bunch of locomotives with extra lights and better sounds. The next 2 I’m about to start working on are my Athearn RTR Union Pacific United Way and desert victory sd40s.

The first thing I would like to do is add a cab interior to both locomotives. That way I can add a cab light and it won’t just light up an empty space. I’ve already designed a 3D model for a cab that I know fits, but I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction for the exact or what most likely is the color of the interior in both of these locomotives?

My other question is does anybody possibly know if these locomotives had ground lights equipped?

The models I own do not have the light castings above the trucks but I’m not sure if that’s due to it being a ready to roll model (more affordable line with less detail) or if it’s because they just didn’t have them.

I’ve tried looking up pictures online and with the very few that I’ve found, it’s really hard to tell if the castings are even there. And of course I didn’t find any with any lights on.

I live on the east coast and have never seen these in person. I’m hoping maybe someone here has seen them in person and knows the information I’m looking for

Welcome aboard, @UPRailroad-844!

Welcome on board, UPRailroad-844.

Sorry that I cannot help.

Welcome. I believe the interior color on the United Way engine was a light gray. The control stand was black. I imagine that the desert Victory units were the same. All the standard cab engines seem to have the gray interior.

If you mean the light underneath the cab on the engineer’s side, plus the lights at each step, yes they would’ve had them. Those are standard on locomotives. The light underneath the cab allows the engineer to look at the ground when starting the train, especially heavy trains at night. You can see when movement actually begins.

Who wuda thought, simple eyeball looking at the ground, simple evaluation, but not dependant on fancy electronics. Kinda like “seat of your pants DETECTOR” when evaluation of what to do next. Jeff always come through with “real world” aspects of operation. endmrw0519251622

Thank you for all the welcomes.

Your response is perfect, thank you. I assumed the light gray but wanted to make sure. Same for the ground/truck lights (whichever people choose to call them). The step lights is something i’ll do in the future.
