coupler install service

Hello to all,

I am finally back to my favorite hobby after a 3 year hiatus and have begun construction on my layout.

1st stage 3’x7’ N scale, hopefully I can post some pic’s soon.

I have a question for the community, Do any of you fellow modelers know of anyone that does custom installation of micro-trains couplers? I have about 10 loco’s that could use the upgrade.

I’ve been googling this, but cannot seem to find anyone.

I live in the Boston,Mass. area but would gladly ship my items out to be done.

Thanks for any suggestions or links.

Which locomotives? Typically most locomotives produced in the past 15 years or so have an easy Micro-trains conversion.

I’m pretty sure that Gerry at Maine Trains in Chelmsford MA does them. At least I know he did them for others before.

(I have no affiliation with this business)

Yes, Gerry at Mainetrains said he would help me.

Thank you for the info & link. I am doing kato and atlas diesels and it seems as though I might break them just trying to pry off the covers.

Then its a matter of what length couplers to install.

Not really; there’s a bunch that do NOT have an ‘easy’ MT conversion. Some require assembling the couplers (the 2001/2004 series come to mind) which is a real pain. I should know - I just finished up a couple of months back fitting MT’s to the rest of my N scale motive power (mostly Kato’s). Let’s put it this way - I used some language that would make a sailor blush. Why can’t MT make their couplers like KD does theirs so you don’t have to assemble the couplers themselves? Just put them in the appropriate draft gear boxes and install.

I’ll do it for ya if you don’t end up using the local guy.

I’m only up in Vermont.
