Coupler Problems

Greetings,

Need some help and advice on some coupler conversions.

I have 2 AHM coil cars that I recently bought but having trouble replacing the couplers.

They are mounted to the trucks and the truck is mounted to the body with a black pin not a screw.

Mchenry couplers wont work because the pin in the coupler box is too small.

I tried the NO. 52’s because I would need a long shank. Didnt work.

The NO 5 Kadees work but the shank is too short.

I would need a longer shank.

Any Advice?

Thanks,

Mark in Texas

If you are just looking for a longer shank, nothing else, no other problems, then it’s the KD #26.

I installed these on my Budd passenger cars for more spacing between cars.

You might want to check out the conversion site, www.kadee.com/conv/list.htm and scroll down
to AHM freight-rolling stock-talgo trucks.

For a picture of the couplers and their specs go to www.kadee.com left hand side, scroll down to
“List by Product” #1-thru 79 and click, then click on 26 or whatever other coupler # you wi***o see.

Had the same problem with a Bachmann coil car. I finally gave up and body mounted Kedee # 5 couplers. Could not convert anyway I tried into the trucks.

I have one of the old AHM coil cars with Kadees installed. I removed the talgo coupler mounts from the trucks with a Dremel tool cutoff wheel and body mounted Kadee #5s in their own boxes which were shimmed down from the floor with styrene to give the correct height. The Kadee boxes are secured with screws.
