couplers

are mchenry couplers on athern genisis compatible with kadee?

Yes,they will couple to a KD coupler but,you will be wise to replace the McHenry with KDs since the McHenry will fail…

thanks, are these the only couplers used bu athern?

Yes, they are the only couplers now supplied with locos by Athearn. As noted earlier, they are compatible but nearly as hardy. I replace all of mine with Kadees which are nearly bullet proof.

I run the various Kadee clones (McHenry is one of several) on my railroads’ (two) short, light (by North American standards) trains - but I keep a stock of Kadees on hand to replace any that fail in service.

Anything that arrives in the layout space with horn-hooks or Bakers gets Kadees before the wheels touch the rails.

Due to end sill geometry, the standard replacement for a Baker is a Kadee #6.

If you just want to run Reliable HO trains, look in to KayDee metal couplers.

Best of luck…
