CP moves ahead with St. Paul Yard expansion

I really do not care if all of St. Paul floods. It is only St. Paul.

All the inane and off-topic comments aside, the real issue is the fact that the “Pig’s Eye Yard” (its true name) dating from its Milw. Rd. design, is too small now. Look at the old CB&Q yard north of Grand Crossing in LaCrosse now… and then. RR’s remain captive to their geography.

Oh well!

“Pig’s Eye Lake”? Doesn’t sound like a place to spend the day. I also don’t see how the lake can be fed by the Mississippi River and at the same time be a buffer against pollution. As for the endangered species, I have ridden the Empire Builder and there are more bald eagles along that river than any place I’ve been. I wouldn’t worry about nesting sites. Great blue herons are getting to be commonplace these days; there’s one that always hangs out in a pond near here, between a busy street and rail line on one side and a trailer park on the other. In this case I can’t really agree with the environmentalists.

I’ve about had it with the nonsense and time / money wasting caused by environmental extremists. It’s not a wetlands, it’s a SWAMP, a perfect breeding ground for poisonous snakes, rats, mosquitos, and other vermin that spread disease. Of course most environmentalists don’t give a damn about the human suffering caused by their lunacy. I’m sure that CP will be very careful not to cause any harm lest they might have to deal with a gaggle of protesters who’ll try to stop the reclamation of the swamp. And I guarantee the herons and egrets will continue to live and thrive.

They will avoid making loud noises during construction. HUH?

Does the average person realize the additional cost of goods and services to us the consumer as a result of these Tree Huggers.I betcha most of them are homeless, welfare etc folk who do not have much to do in their lives and likely could not manager a pay toilet.

Before the term “wetlands” land called a swamp was a worthless liability. Glad CP is putting this worthless land to use.

The tree huggers object to anybody building anything useful. Of course, they have no problem with building another Starbucks or Whole Foods. They aren’t homeless - they live in trendy neighborhoods downtown, where their Volvos and Priuses clog the streets while they babble endlessly on their cell phones.

People complain about the lack of capacity on the CP, then people complain when the CP tries to add capacity.

No, they said “avoid loud construction during nesting periods”

Apparently the average person does not know the cost of mitigating environmental damage caused by ignoring environmental protection.

So…the coalition of the clueless continues to clutter up the TRAINS site.

Not “clueless” but questioning. Had the environment been worshipped 150 years ago the area west of the Mississippi would not be inhabited today.

Frederick is right clueless…I am a big a rail fan as any one. But their has to a balance. Like most commenters in this post I never been to the location in question…but I know the difference between a swamp and wet land. We can develope without destroying. We can move forward with out taking a step backwards.
