CP Rail SD40-2

Hi,

here is a picture.

What can i use for items in HO for the front handrails?

Hi Christian,

I was working on an SD40-2 for a BC Rail Project a while back & needed the ‘wide set’ pilot stantions & hand rails too. I used the brass ones form a Smokey Valley Handrail kit I had in one of my detail parts supply boxes. Many of the new Smoky Valley ones are plastic, but for the pilots I like the Brass ones. Although I have taken this kit apart to put in RailFlyer Canadian Steps, I will eventually get back at it. Railflyer also has some stantions kits out /or coming out too.

Nice work.

Are those Kato or Athearn units you are working on?

I have seven of the Athearn units I`m working on for my own road.

Do you have a link for Smokey Valley?

Hello,
Thank you, those are both Kato units, one is stock but with a Sergent coupler I was testing on it. They are the SD40-2Mid as Kato calls them. There are 2 versions, one has a nose headlight, roof AC, & roof mounted accessories & the other doesn’t.
Smokey Valley does have a web site, but it is mostly txt… http://www.smokeyvalley.com/Catalog.txt
The BC Rail project loco has many Railflyer parts on it. http://www.railflyermodel.com/
As for the front stantions (or stanchions) one can always use the factory ones if you feel like drilling them out & mahing your own wire. I had these & wanted to use them to preserve the originals for future spares.
