CPR 1417 FP7a

Hi, I´m Christian from Germany,

can anyone give me a color-picture of CPR 1417 FP7a? Can anyone explain the difference of 1400series and 4000 series FP7a of the CPR?

Thanks forward!

Hello - Maybe you may look on the “Fallen Flags” site.

Here’s a shot of FP7A 1417 in 1966: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cp/cp1417s.jpg

Here’s #4068 in 1974: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cp/cp4068bdc.jpg

To me, except for the different paint, they look identical. Some of the 4000-series units were renumbered into the 1400s. Unfortunately, 1417 was wrecked in 1971. Here’s another link with some roster information: http://www.trainweb.org/galt-stn/cproster/locomotive/1400s/1400a.htm

.

1400 series FP7s were dedicated to passenger trains, and regeared for higher speeds than 4000 series FP7s, I understand. CP did convert locomotives between the two classes by re-gearing.
