About 3 yrs ago my wife bought me an Athern BB GP38-2 which is CP Rail # 7311. This loco is one of my better running Atherns, very quiet for a BB and a good puller. On my way to Mechanicville NY tonite I went by Mohawk yard in Rexford and to my surprise there was the real #7311. I nearly went into a ditch looking at it. Has anyone else on the forum bought a prepainted loco and then run into the real thing later on? Also is there a website out there where I can keep tabs on this locomotive? Thanks
Thanks for the website. The 7311 looks like it had a new paint job in the picture. Tonite it looked fadded but was still in good shape for a 36 year old loco.
6027 is based out of Winnipeg and generally runs (i believe) between Thunder Bay and Saskatoon. I’ve seen it on at least 3 seperate occasions. Never when I had my camera, though. Actually, I have photos of nearly all of my models that I’ve taken, usually while at work. The only one I haven’t seen myself is SOO 6051.
I’ve seen (and photographed) dang near every one of CPs SD90/43Macs. I’m only missing 4 out of 61. The place where I work is within 250 feet of CPs Minnedosa sub, so I can look right out the office window at the line.
Also, CPs SD90MAC-H units are all based out of the 'Peg as well, and go by where I work on a semi regular basis.
I saw the 7311 again today, twice in a matter of days[:D]. It was lashed up to another geep in DH blue and gray lightning stripes apparently picking up or dropping off something at the GE plant in Schenectady. Wish I had a camera, but even if I did it was raining too hard to get a good shot[sigh]
I have Athearn BB Illinois Central SD-40-2 number 6135 and 6153 with dynamic brakes. I drove them both when I was a student locomtive engineer for the IC.
I believe it was the 6135 that is now in CN colors.
