I know things in the RR world often occur at a snail’s pace, but I’ve yet to see anything particularly meaningful from this marriage. Am I missing the big news or are there really few things happening? Obviously the Powder River extension is the big, dormant dinosaur egg (pun well intended) but aside from that, is anything interesting happening?
The egg containing the PRB extention is being sat on by CP for now. Not ready to let it hatch. With the condition of the economy and the tight banks CP is being a little chicken about moving foreward right now. I think some of the landowners fighting DM&E have been going coo-coo fighting them.
Obviously the PRB project is on the backburner stages for the time being but one thing that I think is even bigger (IMHO, anyway) is the development of the KCITY gateway and more traffic cooperation agreements with the KCS.
The cooperative agreements with the KCS are front and center. The economy is what has put the PRB project on hold. I expect that when the economy picks up in late 2010 or 2011 the CP will be thinkining about resurrecting this project.
