With the info about 2816’s moves this summer starting to come out I am starting to do some railfan planning in my mind. I would love to photograph the locomotive running across the Stoney Creek Bridge, but I have no idea how to get to the vantage points. Can anyone give me some directions?
The instructions I got from a Parks Canada employee were; There is a service road just east of the last snowshed (thats a highway snowshed)going to the east of Glacier park. It goes all the way up to the bridge. Make sure you have TWO cans of bear spray as their are lots of grizzlies and black bears in the area and they are real hungry in the spring. A good place to stay is canyon hot springs. The CPR mainline runs right through the campground and you can watch two or three trains an hour go through on some days. Once we were there lounging with our beer and heard the sound of a steam whistle of in the distance echoing through the mountains and sure enough along came an old hudson. It’s the perfect campground for train lovers with lots of railfaning hikes nearby.
Make sure you go into Glacier Park Lodge as there is lots on the CPR in there
