CP’s Harrison offers to ‘fix’ Chicago’s terminal roads

I would like for Fred Frailey to evaluate this plan and write an article on it as to whether it would work or not.

If he means “great at operating them” by shutting them down then yes, they are great at that. Anyone with intimate current knowledge of Chicago know that CP is a major problem now in Chicago due to Harrison ways.

Substituting one can of worms for another. This guy’s ego knows no bounds which is entertaining in a perverse sort of way…like a bull in a china shop…he seems to be overdue for a equally entertaining comeuppance.

At least he is proposing SOMETHING. Other RR leaders may be developing ideas, I have no way of knowing, but this is the first one I’ve heard. Will this offer solve Chicago’s problems? To quote John Wayne, “Not hardly!”, but for sure nothing is going to get done until someone comes up with some ideas and others give them consideration.

Chicago has always been a spaghetti bowl for railroads, major change would entail buying lots of real estate, construction, etc. 10’s of billions of $ and it may be done by my retirement in 2035.

The solution would be to hire more employees to run the locomotives and use more new locomotives so that the freight cars are moved on-time.

The guy has done such a great job moving oil and grain in the Great Plains, now he thinks he can fix Chicago? I think people should ask his customers before he sets out to “fix” anything else.

A rebuilt ns Kankakee belt line would ease the flow of traffic if the railroads could agree to use it . The route is there just upgrade it ns is sitting on a gold mine

A rebuilt TP&W could help too!

“We think we’re pretty good at operating terminals, and we could do a better job,”

Hmm…didn’t realize it was April 1st already…

ETH…he’s your next boss…

I will be completely honest not a fan of this guy on how he runs a company.

I second George E Benson’s idea. We need Fred Frailey’s experienced analysis here. And just where does the CREATE project fit in with this?

Does he actually think that all the other railroads are just going to let him have full control of “all things terminal” in Chicago. I guess he could possibly fix it, but anything in Chicago takes so much time and costs so much money, but until the railroads figure out that not every train needs to go there, and you can get there without going there nothing is gonna change. But in the mean time I want total control, and I want it now.

He should try fixing his own railroad first - by stepping down and apologizing for the harm he has caused

Of course all the union people don’t like him because he does what needs to be done and that is lay off redundant employees and makes the rest work for their pay. He fixed what was wrong with CN after years of government mismanagement and he is on the way to fixing CP. If you guys want trains to ride and photograph (and work on) you might want to give him a chance. Nobody else is doing anything and the passengers are all about to abandon Amtrak and head to the roads and skyes.

He will have to be well guarded if he accomplishes a takeover of these operations.

If an example of how EHH would “fix” the Chicago congestion problem is the current state of affairs on the old IC between Chicago and Carbondale, e.g. Amtrak ot (or lack of) performance, I vote a big NO THANKS. While he no longer controls CN his legacy remains.
