Does any one know if CSX has their ex-CR SD70MAC’s and SD80MAC’s are assigned to a specific area or do they roam the system wherever they need the power? Any left in CR paint still?
none that im aware of are still in CR paint that csx got out of the deal.
Which is a perfect place for me to insert - we saw a CSX 6000 pushing some cars around our yard this weekend. (#5011 - Lincoln NE). That was quite a sight!
Most of the Ex CR SD80MACs on CSX .Are assigned to Benning yard in Washington DC mostly running coal trains from there .Down the NEC to Bowie Jct Md .And to the Popes Creek line to the power plant. I have seen 2 of them still in CR paint. The yard is off of I-295.
The NS SD80s are in coal country in Central Pennsylvania, taking unit trains to metro Philadelphia, or in west slope helper service. NS won’t have them around much longer,(odd balls never last long on NS) so if you can, get to Central PA and see them before it’s too late!. My guess is that they will be leasers before the year is out.
