and they say I need help…

I wonder how many posts this thread will take before it becomes a mud slinging contest. Of course, I’ll be here watching every second of it!

Better fire up the popcorn machine in case…

I, for one, do not want the crickets in my backyard.[:o)]

anyone up for animal crackers and Pepsi? Sorry it’s all I have

Make that PEPSI a Coke, or TAB, and then [yeah]

Egads!

[(-D]

Would you like ice with that?[:D]

I knew some old Alco switchers that sounded like that.

However, the CNW-owned crickets would always say “Cheap, cheap, cheap” (and Nothing Wasted).

(I know, I’ve just prevented removal of this topic for not being railroad-related. Shame on me!)

How…COULD YOU!?

And Snakes!

Perfect intro to what I wanted to say this morning: I know Allan reads the Omaha Weird Herald, and this morning, they have outdone themselves.

There is an article on “Snakes on a Plane” this morning and at the bottom of the article, there is a section wanting you to write a plot outline for the Nebraska version:

Snakes on a Payne (Alexander), Snakes on the Plains and are you ready for this: Drum Roll…

Snakes on a Train (UP). While it provided a little humor over the morning cereal, it made me think - what about snakes on trains. I know a good share of you live in warmer climes and have probably had to deal with nature’s original mouser.

Any thoughts?

Wouldn’t the snakes eat all the crickets?

[oops][#offtopic] [(-D]

I just came back from a week camping in North Carolina, at Lake Jocassee. My wife carried on the annual family tradition of feeding the fish, and she used… crickets. Not crickets that we caught, oh no. These were special crickets; they came in a special box. I think the bait shop owner even convinced her that they had been specially trained to call out to the trout that were in the lake.

Trust me, no fish were harmed in the fishing expedition… the crickets, well, let’s just say they went swimming… without life vests.

Mookie: I know a guy who worked in the SP shops for years out in L.A.

He tells how part of his job was to remove stuff that got up into the locomotive nooks’n’crannies and he was always apprehensive about working on any train that had been stopped in the desert for any length of time at night.

According to him, the snakes crawl onto the tracks for warmth and when a locomotive comes along, the snake might like a little more warmth. He said that while working one day he found himself staring at a rattlesnake.

Snakes On A Train indeed.

Crickets are one of the few reasons we need to use sand on the steam locomotives at Golden Spike. Yes - they make the track that slick. (And the snake in the engine house does not eat them.)
