I have a strong suspicion that there would only be HOm and HO Crocodiles - I’m only aware of metre gauge and standard gauge examples of the type.

What is a “crocodile”. I’m sure your not talking about the thing in the water.

It’s a kind of rod-driven electric loco used in Switzerland, with variants also found in Austria and Germany. More information can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocodile_(locomotive)

BEMO at one time did produce the RhB Krokodil in an HOe version as well as HOm. I have one.

Cheers,

Mark.

Thanks Mark! I have found the HOm one. How long ago did you get your HOe one?

Thanks also to Railroading Brit and Walter Clot.

Zounds! An electric Beyer-Garratt!

Until I read the Wikipedia reference I didn’t realize that the Krokodil types had articulated bodies. That, plus the side rods, is enough to make me want one, even though it would be entirely inappropriate to my prototype and incompatable with any of my existing rolling stock.

Thanks for the information, and the inspiration.

The Bemo one is a current model but you may need to order it specially as not many places hold the HOe one in stock over here.
I use www.winco.uk.com if you are stuck, anyone who stocks Bemo in the US should be able to order it for you. There are blue 75 years glacier express ones and the traditional brown ones.

Thanks devils! [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

tomikawaTT They are cool locomotives! I have one made by Roco in HO, but I recently got some HOe and I thought it would be cool to add one to the narrow gauge roster. I am also planning on scratch building one in 1/32 to go with my early Marklin tinplate. I know that Marklin made one in gauge #1 but they are extremely hard to find and about the price of a used luxury car!!! [:p]

devils I checked the Winco web site but I only saw the HOm version. I did find this on ebay while looking around http://cgi.ebay.de/Bemo-H0e-H0m-Elektrische-Lok-Rhaet-Bahn-Krokodil_W0QQitemZ7399980028QQcategoryZ80994QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It looks from the box that this is both HOe and HOm. Maybe you can manually narrow the axels???

“with variants also found in Austria and Germany” there are also a couple in china not mentioned in the wiki article.

They were at the Fushun coal mine i believe.

I wouldn’t recommend trying regauging it, the cranks are a bit delicate, the chassis is common to both versions so it is possible. Look on www.Bemo.de for the code number for the HOe version. As I said shops tend to stock the HOm version, I know Winco will order the HOe one if you ask though and this should apply to anyone else who is a Bemo dealer. LGB do one in G scale to run on 45mm track see www.lgb.com search under products and RhB or krokodil

About ten years ago. Although it’s not a Krokodil, Roco used to make an HOe model of the Mariazellerbahn rod-coupled electric locos - you might also find that interesting.

WMK do a conversion kit for the original box-cab body.

All the best,

Mark

The rod drive class 1099 Austrian Mariazell loco is still available from Narobahn, (I think) as are the Rod drive diesel hydraulics class 1095 from Stangl, can’t remember which one does which off the top of my head, again check Winco. There are some electric multiple units as well. Hmm must contact Peter and Yvonne at Winco and see if they’ll do commission!!![;)][:-^]

Some nice pics of kroks on these sites and european rail in general.

Just got one in the mail on Tuesday. It’s an HOe HOm version…all I had to do was press the wheels on farther.
