Can I wire up the older Lionel red/yellow/green crossing lights to Atlas switches for pathway designation? If so, would anyone know how that wiring scheme might go? thanks much for any help, Jake
What is the model number of these three-color crossing lights? Are you sure you’re not talking about a color-light signal?
Does the Atlas switch machine have auxiliary contacts? If not, does the machine continue to force the points into position, perhaps buzzing, while the control is held, like a Lionel 5121, or does it shut off after the points have moved, like a Lionel O22?
Bob, I haven’t purchased the lights yet, I’m trying to figure out what lighs will work if any. The dwarf signals, or something that would indicate if a switch it set for that direction is what I"m after. Thanks much, Jake
Okay, Jake. What can you tell us about the Atlas switch machine? Or does anyone else know the answers to my questions about it?
I have done this on my layout using an atlas #200 snap relay. There is an article in the January 2009 CTT titled “Dwarf signal wiring made easy and removable” that shows how to set it up. Unfortunately the article did not have a wiring diagram and the instructions for the snap relay required a lot of trial and error before I figured it out.
I really like the Atlas track, but like you I wanted the signals. On a siding with a switch at each end, I just set it up so when I press the switch control box, both switches move and the lights change color. I hope this helps. Dave
