Crossing The High Trestle (pics)

A Shay locomotive makes its way over the Junior Canyon Trestle. The trestle stands 120 scale feet over the creek below:

Here’s a shot of the stone footings. The footings were made using 1/8 inch pieces of ply wood covered with plaster. The stone work was then scribed by hand then painted with Floquil’s concrete. The stones were weathered using an alcohol and India ink wash:

Very , very nice work as always Bob, I kinda like trestles myself. Yours truly looks built into the surrounding scenery, fantastic job and definately inspirational.

Keep 'em coming…

Have fun & be safe,
Karl.

Great stuff Bob! Love the website too!

WOW! That is indeed impressive Bob. You always seem to raise the bar with your work.

Great pics Bob. I would never have the patience to build something like that. Excellant job!

Bob,

What is the radius of the curve on your trestle? I want to build one that is similar, but I need it to be a 24" radius.

Kevin:

The radius over the bridge is 20R. The trestle was built on location to better follow the scenery contours. The upper deck was assembled prior to installation on my workbench, then spanned acoss the canyon. Once the track and deck was installed, i attached the bents to fit.

Have fun.
Bob…
