Crossings over a switch?

Does anyone know how to do this? I did a prototype with an extra atlas switch last night, and all that I had to do was put little wooden ties in where I didn’t want the road plaster stuff to go. I then tested it, and the poor little GP9 stalled out there! Am I doing something wrong here? I know it isn’t the insulated part, since the feul tank of the engine was over that. I’m not missing any connectors for the switch. Is the engine not touching the rail? [soapbox]

“Is the engine not touching the rail?”

That is most likely the case. The plaster should be a millimeter or about a 1/16th of an inch below the railhead to insure good wheel to rail contact. Also make sure the flangeways are deep enough.

You could use a chisel blade to shave down the plaster or a sanding block.

I just finished plaster my dock area with six turnouts buried in the pavement. I still have to add styrene between the points. Btw, I WS concrete paint to the vinyl spackling that I used so white plaster won’t show if the pavement gets scratched or chipped.

Thank you! I filed off the plaster, and it works great now. [alien]
