I was reading the “Crossover wiring” posted by keydiverfla and I have a similar question. I have two crossovers in my layout and a double loop so I can turn my train around from any direction. I haven’t found a short yet because its still in development. I have the double loop all figured out with DCC Specialties PSX-ARSC using Atlas standard remote Turnouts, which are fully insulated so I know I don’t have any shorting issues at that point.
I’m not sure about the crossovers, I don’t have any auto reversers at the crossovers and I’m wondering I need them there. You guy sure know a lot about this stuff and I want to know if any one can see a problem with my layout. I would like to show you a simple one line drawing of my layout, but How do you insert a picture?
I see an image button but when I press it I get a screen with nothing that is familiar to me.
First - the picture issue. Put [img] at the start of the photo link, and [/img] at the end of the link, and press Enter to get a new line after the second set of brackets, like this:
I used italics for the contents of the brackets, though, to illustrate the format. Italics prevent the link from working. If you do it right, it comes out like this:
Hmmm…that doesn’t seem to work. Maybe flickr doesn’t allow remote linking? Some sites do, others don’t.
As for the wiring question, only the loops need reversers, not the crossovers. For the loops, you need to insulate both rails at both ends of each loop.
Thanks, that’s a relief. I was getting a little worried after every thing I read. As I mentioned earlier I put in the double loops so I can turn my train completely around from either direction. After turning the train around and getting back onto the mainline in the opposite direction, I started thinking DC.
It doesn’t matter where your pics are, they only have to be online. If your ISP includes storage space for a home webpage on their server you can upload your pics there, that’s what I have done. When I want to post a pic I just open it in a new window, copy the URL in the address bar, and paste it into the post between the two [ img ] [ / img ] tags (without the spaces).
I use Mozilla Firefox, but it should work just fine in IE. BTW, if your pics are very large you should maybe use the [ link ] [ / link ] tags instead (without the spaces).
Well, my battle is half way won. I have a reverse loop and a crossover. I still need an additional reverse loop module for the crossover section or I get a dead short on one of the gaps at the crossover. As soon as I get the second reverse module I will post the design for you. King was a big help as was Alan. Alan saved my lunch on this one and I owe him BIG time. It’s not impossible to do what you want, just takes a little doing. Hang in there.
You’ve got two reversing sections, one of which happens to be bounded by a crossover. The crossover isn’t the issue, reversing is the issue. The difference isn’t a big deal, but someone reading it could think they need a reversing module because they have a crossover, which is not the case.
