Crystal Spring & Cuehenga Valley Railroad

The Crystal Springs & Cahuenga Valley Railroad was sort of a Brigadoon of railroads. It only existed on the first Sunday of the month. Its power was Travel Town’s EMD Model 40 and its cars where an SP bay window and a Santa Fe caboose. It ran about 100 yards. It was actually a fun little trip. Sadly, it is gone now. The two cabeese are in Fulton and the Model 40 only gets fired up now to switch Travel Town.

Here is the caboose train back in 1999.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks. Have you heard that they have occasionally floated the idea of building a railroad from Travel Town to the L A Zoo? I consider it highly unlikely at this point, given Los Angeles’ financial straits, but the line is an intriguing possibility.

Travel Town (in Griffith Park, north of Downtown Los Angeles) has a collection of lineside hardware like signals that could be used if they ever build the line to the Zoo.

Yes, I have heard the same, but I heard a lot more about it ten years ago than I do now. They did build some track towards the zoo (a few feet), but nothing has happened since.
