csx 3 derailments in March

i heard that csx had 3 derailments in different states. 2 were mixed freight and one coal. it feels like were back in 2007 with csx.

3 derailments out of how many thousands of trains CSX operates in a month. Yep, sounds like a problem to me…

Spring thaws often reek havok with sub-bases. I would imagine this is the predominent issue.

Three derailments? That’s all? Sounds like a good month for CSX, or anyone else.

Sorry; if you’re using that as an attempt to bash CSX, I’m not biting…this time!

Poor CSX. People just love pickin’ at them—

With freeze thaw cycles and what all else–roadbeds be doin’ their thing. And with all the traffic they have-----at least they be doin’ a WHOLE lot better than some of our roads[:)]

NS threw down 38 cars of coal in Waterloo, Indiana Friday evening at the depot. Rumor has it that cars in the parking lot were destroyed and 5500 tons of coal on the ground.

Get out the burgers and hot dogs, we’re havin’ a BBQ.

nope not bashing csx at all. it’s like csx hates doing any kind of track mantaning. with all the snow that csx had it was going to happen at some point.

If they only had 3 derailments, they’d be the best class-1 in the country. The truth is that all the major railroads have multiple derailments every day. But most are never heard about because they are minor. Lots of derailments because of lousy industry tracks, or in yards due to bypassed drawbars, or equipment left to foul. Then you get broken wheels, broken knuckles, cars being popped off tracks due to going in the hole…

When you are moving thousands of tons on little metal rails, there are many factors working against you. Nothing new; part of doing business.

The CSX system track gangs…rail, tie and surfacing, quit working the Friday before Christmas for 2009 and began the Monday after New Years for 2010…

I think I just found out the cause for this derailment! 5500 tons of coal in 38 cars equals something around 144 tons per car, when the weight of the coal plus the car should be no more than 143 tons. Of course, that was just a rumor–but would coal provide the same flavor to a barbecue as charcoal? Somehow I’d be a little leery of this.

I saw a SD70 climb a rail and dump itself on to ground once up here----that was an odd thing to me.[%-)]

With the crazy weather we have been having including flooding, it would be no surprise that they had a few derailments. Probably hard not to at this point.

That seems like a baseless, generalized, putdown by someone with a dislike for CSX. What makes you think CSX hates doing any kind of track maintaining?

Bahh!! nothin a little 'que sauce and a good chedder can’t work with!

So, do you know that all three derailments were track related?

at this time i’m not hearing anything from csx yet.

Does not even have to be track related. Could be the dang locomotive sat funny—[:-^]

BTW–don’t assume that is CSX’s “fault” either if something happens—wait until the detailed report comes out. Makes things way easier—

How dare anyone corrupt their prejudice with fact. Heresy!
