CSX 9998 and 9999!

Well, CSX has finally purchased two more F40PH-2s (upgraded) from Ohio Central. They were numbered 9998 and 9999. This is the part which brings me to my question here.

I thought (well, heard) that these two new F40PH-2s were going to be numbered 9990 and 9991. What is with the changing of numbers.

Also, since CSX let a gap of numbers (9994-9997) between their F40PH-2s, are they going to fill it in in future times? Just curious.

Thanks!!

Where can I find out about these units?[:D]

Are you sure that should be put on the internet? It seems like it would be classified…not my problem though.

A few random thoughts about the numbering of the CSX F40PH’s. I am assuming that 9990-9991 were originally being held for the two remaining F7’s when the first two F40PH’s were leased and numbered 9992-9993. The next two were numbered 9998-9999 to give them the highest numbers on the system.

9998/9999 CSX just passed Biloxi headed W toward NO with a company passenger consist.
