If you are really ignorant enough to think that the president has much to do with this you are sadly mistaken. Again thank bargain basement coal prices, cheap cheap oil and even cheaper natural gas. NatGas is the ‘boogy man’ if you will here. Lay a pipeline to an electric generating station, turn the valve and you have…electricity. You don’t have to have a railroad, tracks to the plant, a crew and locomotives, coal miners…etc, etc. ITS A PIPE! THATS why the shop is being shuttered.
You want cheap gas to fuel your furnace this winter, you want cheap gasoline to put in your car so you can go to WalMart and by cheap imports from China…well this is what you get.
ITS BASIC SIMPLE ECONOMICS IN A FREE MARKET SYSTEM. Do you want government intervention to support prices? Do you want government to hold your hands when things close? OH HE** NO! Thast anethama to you republicans…unless you happen to be on the short end of the stick. Yeah, it really does matter whose ox is gored…
Oh yeah…if you are a CSX shareholder you also want the share price to go up. This is one way its done…

Anybody in this industry who is exposed to the news ought not be surprised by this. Hopefully those who didn’t have heads buried in the sand began looking for new careers long ago and have either moved on or are ready to. And I too appreciate Mr. Gless’s astute observations. It’s easy to blame whipping posts but the truth is a whole lot of economic factors played into what is transpiring. No one individual put us in this spot.
