Kudos for CSX and yet another environmental accomplishment for American railroads. The inherent environmental superiority of trains combined with this type of public/private cooperation will yield increasing value in the marketplace of public opinion. This will become ever more important as the country wrestles with increased habitat loss and climate change.

It is a small positive any way you look at it.

An unusual and positive use of freight rail. I wonder, did CSX designate this reduced rate movement as an “O” train vs. a “Q”?

Ironically, The Central RR of New Jersey moved many carloads per week from the Delaware Bay oyster fisheries, until a blight (pollution?) wiped them out in the early '60s. What goes around, comes around, eh?
