With all these tank cars having spills, one has to start to wonder who built them and why the government imposed standard is obviously inadequate. A minor derailment is all it takes to cause a major problem.
Remote control?
I saw a csx piggyback detouring thanksgiving morning from n/s to the csx line at Berea. I was watching the web cam. I figured something was going on. thanks trains magazine for the update. there were at least 6 train buffs taking pictures in the snow. saw an N/s heritage unit also.
No it was NOT remote control.
@JEFFERY GUSE - I’ve no idea what was involved in this incident, but the cars involved in the Lac Megantic accident (I assume that’s the other “all these tank cars having spills” incident you’re referring to) weren’t “government imposed”: quite the opposite in fact, the various authorities have been recommending replacing them with newer, safer, designs.
Part of the problem is that the government isn’t imposing any standards. If it did, paying for the upgrades (as it also should be doing with PTC, crossing upgrades, and so on… railroads pay taxes too) we wouldn’t be having these problems.
Isn’t it odd that R.C., robots, machined response units were supposed to be better than the human element! Mmm go figure!
remote control ? Yeah that should fix everything , after all this is probably what caused it
No remotes work that part of the yard, it was a road train doubling.
