[sigh]
…Derailment in Confluence, Pa…That’s the main east - west line through the area…
Brian…{From Somerset}, are you on here…That’s in your neck of the woods. We need pictures. {My neck of the woods too, but I’m 400 miles west}.
Apparently, Brian has not found his way to Confluence, (or, the banjo players have found him… {local joke,. sorry}and are keeping him…)
anyway
I went down yesterday, here’s a shot of the cleanup
It’s on the low grade line, (east, track 1) just east of Confluence.
Trains were re-routed over the seperated hi-grade line about a mile to the north of this.
If you look closly, you can see the name “Atlas” on the panel track the side boom is picking up from the panel rack car.
…tsgtbob:
Are you saying Brian is a banjo player…Hadn’t heard him say anything about that yet…Thanks for another picture. Did see the two in the DailyAmerican…{on the computer here}…Shanksville, well not too far from my home…Stoystown.
Looks like a lot of coal to try to recover.
What locos where involved in the crash?
…I believe it was only the coal cars that derailed…Think the figure was 24 of them…Loaded with coal too.
That brings up a question: can coal be ‘salvaged’?
I would think so. They would probably use the same process as coming from the mine. Dump the coal at a facility and have it washed then load up the clean coal. Which brings up another question was it already “clean coal” or was it “dirty coal” on it’s way to a facility?
Hi, Modelcar this Brian I am from Blairsville, Pa not Somerset, Pa. I am about 40 miles Southeast of Somerset.I am on the NS Mainline at Milepost 12 at Blairsville,Pa.
…Hi Brian…{Blairsville}…Yes, I’ve seen your posts on here quite often. I believe we have at least 3 Brian’s on here. The one I’ve communicated with quite a bit is near Somerset…Believe his families farm is near those power generating wind farms. And then another Brian west of me here in Indiana…
Many years ago, many…when we were attending Stoystown High School we on occasion came all the way to Blairsville to play basketball…Always liked that run as it was a long ride on the bus…Oh, so many years ago…You are northwest of my home area.
Yes[:D]
Try 4 or 5- there’s Brian (KY) and myself as well.[:D]
…Oh…I missed the one in Ky…I was counting you {Brian}, from Ia.
The “banjo” reference is a local (and personal between Brian and myself) reference, think the old movie “Deliverence”
One of the things that Confluence is famous for is white water rafting…
As for the photos on the Daily American’s website, they were taken by my co-workers, as I was in Altoona interviewing Ted Nugent…
I did the follow on story for Sunday’s paper, that’s where the photo came from.
I grew up in Lambertsville, but, Shanksville is easier to find.
Bob
…Yes, I know where Lambertsville is.
I stopped at the {is it Stutzman rd. crossing}, of Shanksville line there of the PBS branch last summer and took pictures of the revived road bed back into the coal loading area.
Yes, if the locals don’t get it first.
