csx derailment?

Did anybody hear of a derailment of a csx freight train along i-95 between philadelphia, pa and Virginia?

i heard that the locomotive was almost touching the road.

HA! whats new its a CSX!

Didn’t we just have this conversation not long ago? CSX is like third or fourth in rank for derailments amongst the Class One’s.

are you telling me or yelling at me? who is first for derailments?

Who is “we” (no sarcasm)

if we had this conversation before i dont remember

Just telling you. “We” is the entire forum. The thread had info on all the Class One’s.

Here’s the thread.

Total derailments per million train miles, using the figures in the other thread:

Amtrak - .69

NS - 1.53

CSX - 1.95

BNSF - 2.3

UP - 2.7

KCS - 6.1

Methinks the wrath directed at CSX is misplaced.

The only incident that has made news in the Mid-Atlantic area today is the shut down of Amtrak’s Penn Line MARC commuter system this morning (Aug 20) account of an Acela stiking an Amtrak employee in DC

No, Who is on second; What is on first.

I found a story on a CSX derailment in Tennessee and a CSX collision (two trains) in North Carolina, but nothing in the area you mentioned, except for the aforementioned pedestrian incident in New Carrolton, Maryland.

i found out from my brothers friend who was on his way to virginia. i was wondering if anyone heard anything or saw something on the news

thank you for those who answered

Maybe there should be an age requirement and verification before being allowed to post on here.

Guys, I’ll bet incidents happen all day every day all over the country, and I’ll bet they seldom are newsworthy enough to make a thread here. There was a derail in San Antonio today, and a guy got run over by a train there a couple of weeks ago. Happens all the time over there. Both got about 15 seonds on the evening news. Some of you smart, in the know guys…make an estimate as to how many incidents there are in the country every day. I’ll bet there are dozens of them.

we arent the only ones that derail…every railroad derails at some point in time… infact it happens everyday several times a day all over the countrys rail system… just that most of them are just a wheel or a set of trucks on the ground… they dont make the “news” the ones that make it are the pileups where it looks like someone dumped a box of toy train cars out into a pile… or they involve HAZ-MA where the general public is effected by it…

its the same thing with automobiles wrecks… you dont hear about every one of them that happens yet the numbers say that there is a “wreck” ever 9 seconds or something like that across the country… a fender bender is still considered a wreck but you dont hear about it on the news… the ones you hear about are the ones that shut down roads and involve major injurys or deaths…

basicly if it bleeds it leads…

but when NS hits the dirt or any other road for that fact… there isnt the “snide” comments about it…but when it comes to csx…there is…

Wow, you must have posted mere miliseconds after I did. Thanks for saying the things you did. Guys like you, who maybe work for a railroad know how much this happens. I’d be p***** if every time there was a derailment someone jumped made the snide coments about my company too.

About 25 years ago west of Calgary at Bearspaw a number of 100 ton Government of Canada covered grain hoppers went on the ground within sight of the Bow River. Over a day and half later a fisherman on the river called into the leading television news station to report it. When the TV station found out that this had happened a day and half earlier they got so carried away you would have though the CPR was covering a nuclear waste spill. By this time the line was open and they were standing the cars back up.

What happened though was that very soon after the railway hired their first media contact person. After this the guys that worked with my father in the Dispatchers Office used to get a laugh after an incident when they would see “The Wreck Lady” on the TV

I’m showing my age here because they call Dispatchers Rail Traffic Controllers now and those grain cars will always be Trudeau Hoppers to me.

CSX again!!![banghead]

Awesome, Chef Javier or whoever you are: Did you read any of the above comments about how CSX is third from the top in track safety and how CSX employees don’t like their company being put down by uninformed people with snide comments? For you to make such a comment is more than asinine

GP - In case you hadn’t noticed, whoever he is takes great interest in wrecks, accidents, and other misfortunes on the railroad - look at the last few threads he’s started. He apparently has no great love for CSX, either.

A UP derailed right in downtown Austin by my office yesterday. A couple gondolas (empty) came off the tracks and made a pretty decent mess. A spanking brand new apartment complex was just completed about 25 feet from the tracks and the gondola reached out and wiped out a guardrail - man - the cops evacuated the building. If that gondola had been a tank car full of anything it may have been crazy because the ground-level apts are actually partly underground and liquid can run right into their porches.

Of course the tracks have been here 100 years in what WAS an industrial area and the apartment building is brand new. However, any disaster will probably be blamed on UP. Gentrification can really suck sometimes.

As it was, there was black gravel stuff everywhere and the curbs were totally trashed. The Amtrak pax were bussed to Dallas and the cops wouldn’t let me get close enough to take any goiod pictures. I dont know why the cops were all over the place - just a crane picking up a railcar -

Yeah Larry, I am aware of that, but I am just tired of his misrepresentations every time something happens on CSX. If it were fact, I would say amen, but it is fantasy and I get worked up about it after a while. End of soapbox

There is nothing quite so perfect as the departed…in death they assume a pefection they never attained in life…note Awsome! CR logo. ConRail has only been perfect in it’s demise, not in it’s lifetime…just ask any former ConRail employee how perfect it was in their memory vs. whatever carrier they are working for at present.
