CSX freight derailed in station just south of Amtrak Spuyten Ddutvill turn out. All Hudson line traffic affected. Happened after last evenings rush hour but track still closed.
It is a shame that Amtrak does not have the equipment to run a shuttle from Riverdale to NYP to arry these passengers. Of course the West side line still needs to be redouble tracked and the NYp expansion to allow for longer trains ?

I just left a comment on the Newswire bemoaning the fact that the rail has been picked up on the Harlem line north of Wassaic to Chatham which would have been a smarter choice for freight movements to and from the Big Apple for CSX. And since the wreck is reportedly east of the Spuyten Devil junction, it is a shame equipment is not available for Yonkers to NYP shuttles…or even to a point on Manhattan Island to access other than the “1” train but also another west side subway station.
I wonder how much rent CSX pays MNRR? And do they pick up all the costs to MNRR caused by their derailment?

Regular Hudson Line service remains suspended until further notice due to Thursday night’s freight train derailment in the vicinity of Spuyten Duyvil station.
Limited hourly Hudson Line service will operate through this weekend (Sat., July 20 & Sun., July 21) between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations. We expect to have regular Hudson Line service restored for the AM Peak on Monday, July 22, with possible delays. Until then, customers are strongly recommended to make alternate service plans. (See details below.)
Customers are urged to use the Harlem Line for points of travel north and south. Hudson Line tickets will be honored on the Harlem Line and Metro-North Hudson Line parking permits will be honored at Harlem Line parking facilities operated by LAZ.
For southbound service, limited train service will operate between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations only and connect with shuttle bus service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street for No. 1 Subway service into Manhattan.
For northbound service between Yonkers and Poughkeepsie stations only, customers should take the S Shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square for No. 1 Subway Service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street. Bus service will operate to Yonkers Station and connect with limited train service to Poughkeepsie.

Customers between Riverdale and Yankees-E.153rd Street stations are urged to use NYCT subway and/or bus service. Ludlow customers should use Yonkers Station.

The west side (Empire connection) is double tracked, only single track is Spuyten Duyvil Bridge and box tunnel from 42th street to NYP.
The tracks won’t be open till Monday morning.

So CSX trashed the tracks. On another note has a preliminary cause been determined? Train, equipment and wheels or track and structure. After the wreck in Connecticut I would hope is not a track problem. Rgds IGN

Update: Hudson Line Service Alert
For Monday, July 22, Metro-North will operate a regular Hudson Line schedule with scattered delays of up to 15 minutes due to limited operating capacity following last Thursday night’s freight train derailment in the vicinity of Spuyten Duyvil station.
Limited hourly Hudson Line service will operate for the remainder of Sunday, July 21, between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations, with shuttle bus service connecting to No.1 Subway service at Van Cortlandt Park. Customers are urged to use alternate service plans. See our schedules page**.**
When the freight equipment has been re-railed and removed and one track is clear of all work equipment, crews will work overnight to install 160 feet of third rail on one of the two tracks and then run a test train before operating passenger service on Monday morning.
The remaining track will be out of service for the week and work will continue at night on rebuilding 1,500 feet of track before it can be returned to passenger service.
Late night -off-peak busing (after 10 PM) will be necessary in order to allow this work be complete and special train/bus schedule information will be available Monday on this website.

While I do not know the conditions of the contract between CSX and MNRR, I would say it depends. If the derailment is found to be track caused, I doubt it. If it was equipment caused I would think yes they would.
Here is a 6:00 + video of MNRR wreck clean up… Once again have to give MNRR an A for keeping their riders updated… MNRR is having to remove one container at a time onto another flat. Looking at this video one only has to wonder how much more difficult it would have been if there had been overhead CAT in place. Near the end of the video you can see the Amtrak swing bridge in the distant top left corner.

I am surprised that MNRR isn’t using paneled track to restore the damaged track.
I sure hope they will be moving the cars with only one trash container loaded to a nearby point to properly load the cars with a container on each end as the cars in their single container condition are not suitable for line of road, unrestricted movement (unbalanced load).
