Hello, This question is about the CSX line running from Avon, IN to Terre Haute, IN.
Up until this year (and for the previous 20 years), I was able to clearly hear the detector reports on one of the road channels. The Danville, Reno, Fern and Burnett detectors all came in clear, but now I’m not hearing them. I can hear some of those detectors on 160.350, but I almost have to be on top of them - and even then, they are very hard to understand…
Also, I can hear the detector at MP 8.0 (east of Avon east-west line) quite clearly and I can the detector south of Haley Tower (north-south line). I can pick up both of these detectors when I’m about 8 miles away from them.
So, does anyone know what the frequency is for those CSX detectors from Avon to Terre Haute?
All Defect Dectectors on a SubDivision will broadcast on the ‘Road Channel’ for that SubDivision. The Road Channel is defined in the Employee timetable for each subdivision.
CSX must have changed the road channels here recently. Up until this year, I’ve always heard those detectors on 160.800 (or 161.070) - I never looked, but it was one of those.
I live in Terre Haute along the Big Four line & also have problems picking up the detector at Burnett. But when I was at Haley Tower this afternoon I picked it up loud & clear.
My scanner will pick up the new detector just North of TH from home.
I used the old Conrail road frequencies for almost 20 years out there with no problem. Then beginning in the middle of 2006, I stopped hearing them on the road channels completely. I stumbled upon a report at Fern on 160.350 but not very clear at all - very hard to understand - even though I was parked maybe 150 feet from the detector.
CSX has changed the “voice” recording, but they must have changed the frequency too.
A few weeks ago, I was standing right next to the “control” box there at Fern and could clearly hear the detector report coming from inside the structure. I could understand it much better that what I can pick up on the scanner. Maybe I’ll program a few “stops” above and below this frequency and try that…
I live over here by Adens in ILL [Martinsville] and get the Dupont detector by Casey on 161.070, along with all the main line through here on my scanner, or did till it quit a couple weeks ago.
The yards in Terre Haute are on 160.800 according to a friend who retired from CSX. Mine didn’t reach that far, so I’m guessing he’s right on that.
