Traveling down US30 along the old Pennsy single track line between Valporaiso and Ft. Wayne,in little town known as Hamlet, IN yesterday and came across a local job picking up and setting out grain cars in this little Northwestern Indiana town, and guess what this “local” had for power, nothing less than TWO ex-Conrail SD80MAC units sub-lettered CSXT. Wow, talk about overkill on power (local had about fifteen to twenty cars, no more). Wonder if these units are considered orphans by CSX these days?
I would say probably not.Csx runs conrail units on the lead of trains on the old B&O mainline through Defiance.I have also seen a lot of lease units on the mainline as well.
