CSX Fans?

Hello All
I’m looking to model a modern CSX layout(HO) and I have not had much luck in finding any good ones to build. I’m not a good freelance builder so i figured I would just copy a layout.[:D] size don’t matter as where I’m moving soon, I’ll have a 2 car garage to play with.[:D] Thanx…

I am also modeling modern CSX / Norfolk Southern although I don’t have a garage to build it in. I can’t offer much advice for a large layout but I can tell you to go with the largest radius curves possible. It will save you a lot of frustration. I’m glad to see someone else is modeling modern CSX!

Good luck

Hey CSXFan, Do you use DCC with sound? If so, any problems with the temp/dust in garage? Will be moving my layout to garage soon. Have tower 55 bnsf es44dc with sound. CSX es44dc will be out in fall.

I use DCC but no sound. I can’t really comment on a large layout in a garage other than it sounds great. I can only fit a 5x9 in the basement. You may want to find a way to regulate the temp in your garage. If there is a hot day everything on your layout will expand, including the track. This can lead to bumps and kinks in the tracks that will play havoc on those nice locos. I can’t wait for some pics when you start!

Just my [2c]

Yes I have thought about that also, but I was looking into it yesterday and I did find out that the garage is both heated and cooled by a climated controled unit.YAY!! so that should take off some of the worries about the track expandind and shrinking… I’ll keep everybody up to date with pics and info on the layout…Take Care

Oh gee you poor guy dracoslayer360. I feel so sorry for you having to put up with all that. [:P]

[banghead] Yeah right. Anyhow show pics when you get them. Say before [empty room] benchwork etc if you can. Thanks.

LOL ok, no problem fsm1000, ill take as many photos as i can and post’em…

Hey Everybody,

Currently in the design stages for a modern set CSX layout. Have a train room
11x26 feet to work with so space is not an issue. I’ve set 30 in. min radius, experimenting with 32 as well. Need really big curves to handle modern power and cars. Have 2 OMI AC6000, and a bunch of SD70M’s and 70MAC’s that I can’t wait to get rolling. Have 4 different Tower55’s on order as well. Be a little expensive to keep the latest power, but must keep up to date!

I’ll post my plan as soon as I settle on a rough draft.[:p]

IM getting ready to star a CSX, CR, Amtrak and UP layouy (4x8)
i have the following engines:
1 CR Dash-844CW
1 CR Dash-844C
1 Amtrak F7A
1 AMtrak P42
1 UP SD-40-2
1 CSX SD-40-2
1 CSX GP-38
1 Southern F7A
1 PC F7A Dummy

i know alot for a 4x8 right
i have a mix of Kato unitrak and Bachmann E-Z track (the grey kind)
my dad wants to use the EZ track cuz its cheaper but i like the Kato’s smooth running qualities
right now im in NJ so im seeing alot of NS and CSX engines a few CR painted ones mixed in

I model the CSX in and around the Kentucky area, and I have a 6’ x 24’ layout to work with. I have just taken delievery of a brand new Athearn Genesis SD45-2 with sound & DCC in CSX “YN2” paint, as well as an Atlas Dash 8-40CW in CSX “YN2” paint. I am also expecting to get a Broadway Limited AC6000CW in CSX paint and a CSX SD70ACe from Tower 55 sometime in the future. I also have a few old (and I mean old) Athearn SD40-2s in CSX and Family Lines colors which are going to be used in a retirement yard/ repair facility. It’s good to finally find a group of people who share my interest in the CSX Railroad. [:D]

I model modern CSX. My layout is in a bedroom, its an 11x11 around the walls type still under construction. I use DCC and sound, if you have the money to buy sound equipped locos or the skill to install it yourself you should go for it. One thing I suggest you do is make the garage climate controlled (A/C and heat) if at all possible. If you dont humidity and temperature will cause problems with track and I dont know what if anything it would do to electronics in engines.

UnionRail891, There is a simple solution to your problem. Lay flextrack. It is not hard at all and not really that time consuming. But the great advantage is that it is cheaper than EZ track or Unitrak and runs much smoother than both if laid correctly.

I to model CSX, its nice because i can also run NS and Conrail on the same lines also, along with a stray BNSF(just got a new phase 3 scheme). My main modeling focus is on Amtrak however. I love making all the freights pull over when the superliner rolls on by. [;)]

Thanks alot JPM355
ill see what my dad says when he gets off from work today

csx is a good road to model my question is why modern? i work for the modern CSX and while we have some good power out there sometimes you get the junk pre 80’s power to go down the line. the other reason i ask is cuase its to me so expencive to do modern always having to buy newer locomotives. CSX recently bought a bunch of new locomotives starting whith the number 5300 they are ES44DC locomotives by GE. I still pefer GM on the road Pulls better
