CSX in deep doodoo in Rochester,NY.

CSX is considered a second class railroad here in Rochester. Grade crossing protection is a real problem with them. This week a couple were killed when crossing barriers didn’t come down for approaching train. This is a major roadcrossing and people around here are really P.O.'ed about this. Witnesses from nearby stores claim the crossing has been a problem for weeks. CSX blames the train conductor for not stopping to clear the road of traffic. They claim he had orders to do so.

There are problems with other grade crossings as well. Barriers going up and down at random caught one car on the roof damaging the vehicle. Other barriers come down and stay down. CSX blames heavy use of salt on the roads for their problems.

Several years ago there was a runaway coal train which ran down hill into a small railyard at the entrance to the Genesee River. This is a heavily populated resort type area with many boat yards and restaurants. The resulting fire burned several buildings. Also a large quanity of coal was dumped into the river. CSX dragged their feet so long on the cleanup the City of Rochester threatened to do the cleanup and then sue the railroad for the cost .

I was not a big fan of Conrail but they sure knew how to run a railroad. We never had these problems with them. CSX seems on running a marginal railroad at best.

It seems like any more all the new about CSX is not good. As the old say goes, sounds like they are “going to h*** in a handbasket”

I do miss Conrail. I don’t understand why they allowed their rr to be split? They were a well run railroad and last I knew had been making money.

CSX seems to be having nothing but problems these days. Getting rid of Snow was good for them and bad for our country (considering where he is and what he is doing now). Well you know the Alamanac did predict a bad winter for Snow lol. [;)]

Maybe you could post in csx-sucks.com

You will find kindred spirits here as well as sane and insane, disgruntled, former and present employees venting at management. Also the lighter side in pictures and cartoons.
Can’t say that I like the site’s name, however. I’m no prude but that s-word is everywhere these days and it’s well…(c)rude. Know how I know? You almost never see it used in these forums!!!

i learned that CSX is a 10 dollar railroad with a 5 dollar budget!

Interesting about the positive comments on Conrail (I live in the western
Midwest so I had no hometown experience with Conrail). They were
born from the biggest railroad business disaster in history (Penn Central)
and from the beloved but cash-starved EL, run initially by the government,
privatized, and now they’re remembered as a major success story. Very
interesting, indeed.

CSX is having a lot of public relations problems here in Ohio too.Try to help fix up an old depot no answer from csx so the city condems it and there it sits.and as far as I know the hopper is still down in Hamler because of bad track.sigh
stay safe

I guess I’ll have to change my cat’s name from Chessie to Conrail! [%-)]
