I have a Athearn GP35 bought at a garage asle for $1.50 and bought a new unpainted shell for it. I am a beginner and would like to make a new engine out of it. I wanted to make a CSX MOW Pumpkin engine and was wondering what paint to use to paint it. I also need a source for a full set of hand rails since some are missing.
I don’t know anything about pumpkin paint. But if you have the instructions that came with the model you should be able to find the handrail set part numbers on there and then contact Athearn and see if they can supply the parts. If you don’t have the instructions, then go to the following site, http://www.hoseeker.org/athearnmicellaneous.html, click on the drop down menu for Athearn diesels, and see which one of the GP35s they list (I saw three different vintages) identifies the parts you need.
Don’t forget about the decals. I’ve been looking for a set for a similar project with no luck.
Floquil Reefer Orange seems pretty close. That’s what I plan to use on mine.
