CSX NAMES PRESIDENT OF INTERMODAL COMPANY
James Hertwig to lead revenue and volume growth at CSX Intermodal

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 21, 2004 - Clarence W. Gooden, CSX Corporation
(NYSE: CSX) executive vice president and chief commercial officer, today
announced that James R. Hertwig has been named president of the company’s
intermodal unit, CSX Intermodal Inc (CSXI). Hertwig joins CSXI from Landstar
Logistics Inc, a transportation services company that provides integrated
logistics services, where he served as president.

Hertwig will be responsible for leading all aspects of CSXI’s operations and
sales and marketing efforts.

“The key to our intermodal success is the ability to provide seamless rail
and truck services. Our customers will benefit from Jim’s 30 years of
experience in the trucking and logistics industries,” said Gooden. “Jim is
inheriting a dedicated group of professionals at CSXI and we are confident
that together, they will improve our service product and increase volumes.”

CSXI is the nation’s only transcontinental intermodal transportation service
provider, offering transportation for domestic containers and trailers,
premium parcel business and international steamship containers over a
network of dedicated intermodal facilities. CSXI purchases approximately 450
dedicated trains which operate between its 45 terminals weekly. In 2003,
CSXI accounted for approximately 16 percent of CSX Corporation’s operating
revenue and 18 percent of its operating income.

In the first quarter of 2004, CSX Intermodal reported continued growth in
volume and revenue. Domestic and International loads were up 4 percent
quarter over quarter, while revenue was up 3 percent versus the same period
in 2003.

the state’s Intermodal Freight Task For
