Talk about a Modelers eye view…
Now everyone is going to want their own drone!
Believe it or not they are out there and not very expensive.
One of My Son’s has a Nano Quad chopper, we have been experimenting trying to fly over the layout and it is smaller than the one with the camera. Not a easy task to learn how to control one. LOL crashed every time. So we just ordered a book and video, on how to fly the darn thing. Talk about decoders…the whole batt. receiver and motor controls (4) will fit inside the diameter of a nickel. You charge it by plugging it into Your USB port on your PC.
It only cost 50.00. I was able to fix the one we crashed so many times. Unbelieveable what is available now adays.
Take Care! [:D]

When I go watch video taken back in the 80’s, it’s such a blurry mess, the hi-res video’s of today at 720 or 1080 look so much sharper, and now with drones. Sure makes me wish we had a time machine to send a drone back to take video of RR’s of our fav RR and time period without messing up the fabric of time! hah hah.
I met the fellow who does these videos, Drayton Blackgrove, while railfanning the steam festival in Owosso Michigan. He is very young and already has an amazing mastery of the drone and its use for videos.

Speaking of intermodel, there was a follow-up video from UP on operation of one of their intermodel faclilties. It is geared to the customer picking up or dropping off a container or trailer, but gives a good overview of how an intermodal facility works. Good closeups of how the straddle cranes work
There are many pretty good video’s of Intermodal facilities floating around.
A little backround: Out of My 45 yrs in transportation industry 25 of them were in Intermodal, 10 of the last were spent leased to CSX Intermodal, Bedford Pk, Il. Five of those were spent as a crane operator, side loader, etc. at the same facility. The kind shown in video. I did not work for CSX, I worked for an outside contractor called Pacific Rail Services, Seattle Wa. Railroad employees Do Not unload/load their own trains, Union Pacific and others also…It is done by Independent Contractors like PAC Rail, which are Teamsters. Check in/out is done by Railroad Employees, air test/lock down/ground man also.
My youngest Son works for CSX Bedford, 16yrs. He is a YardMaster, with a Engineers License…He started from the ground up…I got him in right out of high school when He turned 18.
Another Son who lives with Me, is a ATM at the Union Pacific Intermodal yard In Joliet, Il. 12yrs. He is in His early 40’s, He also started from the ground up at CSX Bedford, so I had two Son’s working at the same place I was…I got ribbed about family reunions when I spoke with them when they stopped by the crane…they were both supervisors there then.
I would like to post a lot more photos of some things…but can’t…UP don’t like it…especially wrecks.
Take Care All! [:D]
