how does CSX/NS set up its power configuration on there coal trains?
Normal power for CSX coal trains is 2 AC 4400’s. There are exceptions, i****n some territories where a 3rd unit may be used as a ‘kicker’.
By rule, maximum tonnage rating for head end power on unit trains on CSX is the tonnage rating on each territory for 2 AC’s + 1 Dash-8. Needless to say the specific tonnage numbers vary according to the particular territory.
