CSX on the old L&N Main

I’ve done a couple photo trips so far this year. Mostly on CSX’s former L&N Main Line.

These are from January:

#9024 waits just south of Osborn Yard.

#5407 moving south out of Osborn Yard.

A meet.

These are from today:

Ok,I’ll slip in an R.J. Corman unit here

#9002 is a former B&O GP18.

Made my way to Shepherdsville. Nothing at Bardstown junction, except a lone covered hopper awaiting pickup by CSX. Roll on into Shepherdsville, and decide to park behind the Bullitt County Courthouse. The depot in Shepherdsville was once located here. After some waiting,a train horn caught my attention, and saw this northbound making its way to the crossing:

The engineer in #5006 was kind enough to wave at me,and I did wave back.

After that,I decided to move probably a 1000 feet at most north to the crossing at Highway 44.

I waited for a bit and noticed the signal I was previously standing next to turned yellow with a green light flashing. Looking north,I saw another southbound heading my way.

The engineer’s wife and two young kids were also in the parking lot,and the engineer leaned out the window to wave and gave the horn two quick blasts as well.

Another wait, for about 20 minutes, and I heard a horn blast in the distance. It wasn’t coming from the north, obviousl

Thanks for posting these, nice stuff! Most of my “shooting” is done on a portion of CSX’s W&A sub, usually between Smyrna and Cartersville, GA.

Good photos, thanks for sharing.

Nice shots. Going through your home town and waving at your family is cool, I’ve done it on several ocasians.

Nice pictures Jeff, where were the RJC shots taken? Bardstown?

According to all the stuff I have on RJC; 9002 is listed as an ex B&O/C&O GP-9, do you have

something that I’ve missed?

The RJC shot is indeed in Bardstown. Your information is probably correct,I get my numbers wrong frequently when it comes to anything other than an SD40-2(which is about the only thing I can recognize without having to read the side of the engine when it goes by)

Jeff, thanks for your answer; I wasn’t sure if my info was flawed or not.

Managed to get to/through Osborn on the first day of this month (legally)

and got to grab a few pics. there. Didn’t seem to be a lot going on at the time I was there.

R.J. Corman’s FP7s sitting outside the Bardstown shops on a dreary day.

What is the R.J. Corman concern and are those nice-looking FP7’s meant to haul something like business trains, or dinner trains??

a. smalling

They haul the “My Old Kentucky Dinner Train” to Clermont and back. I’ve occasionally seen them used for freight around here too.

Kinda wish yesterday wasn’t so overcast for those shots(hence the term “dreary”)

Al, check out their web site at http://www.rjcorman.com should give you a bit more

insight on them.

Jeff, nice shots of the FPs.
