Did any leftover 70-ton Chessie coal hoppers ever survive to be painted with CSXT reporting marks [regular revenue service, not MOW], or did they all get retired before the merger?
The correct answer is probably neither. I pulled out a 1990 Equipment Register, and found that they had some 70-ton (or 80-ton) hoppers left in C&O and B&O reporting marks at that time, but I don’t see any CSXT-lettered ex-Chessie hoppers (all would be in the 800000 series) of less than 95 tons capacity. (There were actually three B&O offset-side twin hoppers left then!)
Thanks Carl, I was afraid of that - oh well.
