Isn’t 2751 the last Seaboard-painted unit?
Right that, James. Makes an old Geep look sleak in comparison.
Whew! Those babies are ugly! I’m guessing much nicer from inside the cab.
White coal, as in, coal that has a layer of snow on top.
The cab does look unconventional, though looks really don’t always figure very highly on work horse machines.
Those new cabs and front ends make them look like they were made from LEGO kits! On the other hand, It looks like they give the crews more head room like the Santa Fe’s “Cleburne cabs” retrofitted to CF7’s and first generation Geeps.
White coal! Where do they mine THAT!?
Too bad the 2751 isn’t painted in the Seaboard scheme.
2751 is ex Conrail

Mr. Galligan: Back in the early to middle 1900’s MILW ran a lot of electric locomotives, and generated their own power hydroelectrically. They called it White Coal. We could use a lot more of that technology today…
I hope their GP30 slugs never start to get these new cabs.
Sadly from an aesthetics point of view, since these cabs are primarily intended for increasing their crashworthiness, that just might start happening one of these days.
I’m sure they’re quieter and better keep the warm air in during the winter and the hot out during the summer, but it’s their increased protection that is cited as the reason for it.
So I bet such a project is at least being mulled around for their slugs. So unless some regulation is forcing CSX’s hand here that requires them to increase cab safety when a unit is rebuilt rather than new cabs being voluntary, I bet it happens.
It took a wile for me to like the wide cabs. Now this

I wonder what engine and EPA Tier level they are.
Who is manufacturing cabs? Also, who makes upgraded traction control system? Do any readers know?
