Could someone point me toward a website or book that explains CSX and/or Norfolk Southern signaling practices? I would like to know what types of signals are used and were they are placed.
Thanks in advance.

Which CSX type? Seaboard? B&O? All are still used, although, the Seaboard type (D Head - traffic light style), are replacing the B&O type (color position light) as the fail.

D head, I guess, since the color position lights are not used in my area. Although information on both would be helpful.
Somthing like this
Thanks.
I honestly don’t know much about this, but I live along the CSX mainline in the Indianapolis, and though I don’t usually shoot pics of the signals, I did see this one that I thought was interesting. This one is just west of downtown Indianapolis. I’m looking west with the Indianapolis Power and Light plant behind me.

The style of two signals on the same mast is definitely in the style of B&O, although B&O usually used color position light signals rather than the triangular color light signals seen on this mast. The signals may have been placed higher than usual so they could be visible past an overpass or some other obstruction.
I think those are searchlite signals. Although, the photos aren’t really clear enough to tell. I’m not aware of any placed on the B&O that used searchlight type signals.
