Of all the stupid stuff our government does, the ethanol fiasco is about the dumbest thing ever.
Obviously Herod Lowry knows little about fuel chemistry. Ethanol replaced the use of MTBE which contaminated water supplies in California. Ethanol also improved engine performance as well as literally home grown displaced foreign oil to a minor extent. The problem with ethanol is it is flammable and need special handling.
And ethanol takes a lot of diesel fuel to produce. In fact, ethanol production (at least as it is done in the US) takes about as much energy as is subsequently derived from the ethanol…
