CSX train derails in Indiana
Thing will be thing
Sounds like an incident of shoving blind in the clear where the cut is a little longer than the siding but does not pick or get to the switchpoints.
Or, not enough or no hand brakes tied down.
Will be interested to see what is reported as the reason for fouling freight cars here.
From what I’ve heard, the South Shore was shoving a train of empty coal hoppers (or gons) into CSX’s Miller siding for interchange. One of the empties back in the train derailed prior to getting to the siding. South Shore’s conductor was protecting the shove, but had no idea that one of the cars was derailed. When the derailed car reached the west siding switch, it fouled CSX’s #2 main track where Q01008 was approaching at track speed. South Shore’s conductor could not have protected the derailment in time to stop the collision.
What no signalling or track occupation detection in place or do you just run trains willy nilly in that part of the US
Mr. Bourke, if Mr. Dupee’s account is accurate, it sounds like no signal would have been tripped, at least not before the CSX train passed it.
