CSX trash train to Bishopville, SC

Can anyone tell me what trash cars & containers are on the CSX freight that comes through Dillon, SC & into Florence Yard. From there, they go to a landfill in Bishopville. The few times that I have seen these cars, there are usually a few cars at the head end of a thru-freight (not a unit trash train). Atlas offers some flat cars & trash containers, but I would like to know the reporting marks of the cars & containers that run in that area. Me & some friends went to Dillon last week, but we got there too late to see that train.

Thanks.

SeadooChooChoo, I don’t know the specific area of Dillon or your Florence Yard, but I do model neighboring Virginia and Maryland. Some trains both unit and through go through this area too. Much if not all of the trash you see on these trains is coming from New York City, Anappolis Junction, MD, Kearny, NJ and other such places north. Generally the containers can be on ttx flat cars or other marked cars(I have mostly seen the former on youtube videos). While I can’t pinpoint all containers I do know that the solid green ones are owned by Waste Management. These are coming mainly from the big apple and specifically Queens under a contract agreement with CSX and WM. The train you are speaking of is carrying shipments from Republic Services and these are from Staten Island. For more information I would consult the July 2011 issue of Trains(and the reference as to where I found the above information). I hope I have helped you in your modelling.

Is this what you are speaking of??

This was taken at Florence, SC on Dec. 17, 2009. These Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) cars come off of the South Carolina Southern to the CSX there at Florence. The containers are 20’ long and 12’ tall. You can search “ECXX” for ownership.

Yes! That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Do you know what the reporting marks are on these containers? Is it perhaps “AWIU”? Atlas offered some MSW containers & those seem to be the closest to what you have the photo of. The others that Atlas offered are brown, green, orange, or blue, so the “AWIU” in gray seems to be the closest match to your photo.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Chris

Yes, I magnified the original image, and those are AWIU containers. The “AWIU” lettering appears in the upper right corner of each container on a white or yellow background, with the number of the container found below that lettering.
