Mr Schurman : It not the short haul that cuts emissions. It is the drive from New York (CSX’s current railhead for intermodal) to the Montreal area that reduces emissions. I do not remember where CSX unloads intermodal for Quebec. Rome or Utica NY?

Thanks to some innovative, grass-roots operational people, CSX finally has realized what a nugget they have in the “Montreal Secondary” that was built to handle double stacks from the get-go, totally underutilized by Conrail, and provides access to European markets on a short ocean route via Canada. Trucking to Eastern Canada is just the “tip of the iceberg”.
